Updated November 11, 2016 . AmFam Team

In the market for auto insurance? At American Family Insurance, our coverage goes beyond a piece of paper — we’re dedicated to not only helping you get customized coverage that fits your needs, but also dedicated to helping you understand it, too. And we believe that translates to real peace of mind.

Insurance doesn’t have to be complicated, but there are a few things you need to know: that you’ve got the right coverage at the right price. Our agents make the whole process simple to understand and they’ll also show you how you’re saving money, too. Take a look at how easy it is to set up car insurance.

You can start the quote process right now, or contact your American Family Insurance agent and build a simple to understand, affordable policy that fits your unique needs.

What documents do you need to get an auto insurance quote?

To get your auto insurance quote rolling and to help us get you the most accurate quote possible, there are a few documents that’ll be helpful to have on hand:

State IDs for all insured. The full name, date of birth and driver’s license numbers for all members of your household.

Contact information. Your full name, address and phone number.

Vehicle ID. You’ll need the vehicle identification number (VIN) and also the year, make and model of the car you want to insure.

Usage details. Info on how often you use the car, and what you’re using it for.

Policy coverage basics. An idea of what coverages you’d like — your agent can walk you through all the options. If you have a “declarations page” that lists your coverages, your agent can use this to help focus on getting you the specific coverage you’re looking for.

A voided check. This one’s optional, but if you bring along a check from the account that you would like automated funds transfers to pull from, you’ll be doing yourself a big favor. Your agent can help you set this up and also enroll you into paperless billing and policy access through My Account (Opens in a new tab) where you can pay with credit cards as well. It’s a convenient online service that can help to qualify you for even more savings and discounts!

Take advantage of our safe driver programs

Once you’re a proud, card-carrying member of American Family Insurance, you’ve got a lot of resources at your disposal. Here are a few highlights of how we’re helping our members turn into safer drivers:

Enroll in DriveMyWay. A usage-based program that helps you to take control of what you pay for insurance. DriveMyWay tracks how you drive and sends the info back to us. The safer you drive, the more you may save on your car insurance premium.*

Help make young drivers better drivers. Our Teen Safe Drive Program is a smartphone app that helps new drivers to understand what areas of their driving habits need improvement. With real-time feedback while they’re on the road, it's a great way to build better habits. They can work on a good driving record and you’ll know how they’re doing when they’re out and about.

Great coverage with great products and services

Making the move to American Family Insurance is smart in so many ways. We know you’re shopping for great coverage at an even better price. We design our policies to be easy to understand, so you’ll know what you’re covered for. And unlike other insurance carriers or car insurance companies, you’ll gain access to an ever-increasing suite of services that benefit you and your family in so many ways.

You’re going to love the comfort that comes with knowing you’re insured carefully, so contact your agent and they’ll craft a policy that’s perfect for you in no time.

*Rate will vary based on driving behavior. Unsafe driving behaviors may increase your rate. Product eligibility will vary by state, vehicle type, policy form and company underwriting the auto policy. Some restrictions may apply. The DriveMyWay rate factor applies only to these coverages, which are typical for most auto policies: bodily injury liability, property damage liability, collision and comprehensive, medical expense, and personal injury protection. Additionally, the rate factor does not apply to fixed fees that are part of the policy. To refresh your understanding of coverages, visit the Car Insurance Coverage page. Customer driving behaviors from the KnowYourDrive program were used to inform rate structure. Adding or removing drivers from a policy may impact the overall score. Households where not all eligible participants on the policy are enrolled will receive a 5% introductory discount. If you unenroll drivers after the 100-day trial period ends, we’ll still use their driving behavior at the time of unenrollment when calculating your rate.
